Hello! My name is Laura Walker. I am a registered counselling therapist candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I have been a counsellor for 3 years. I am originally from Cape Breton, but I have spent the last 12 years living in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Fort Mcmurray Alberta and Fernie British Columbia. I moved back to Cape Breton in July of 2025 to grow some roots and spend my summers with my toes in the sand. I spend most of my time in nature, hiking, camping, fly fishing, exploring.
I have had the privelage of working with individuals of all ages, as well as couples, families, and groups. I have training in a variety of therapies, including Satir Family Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy. My formal education consists of a Bachelor of Arts/ Community Studies from Cape Breton University, A post Graduate diploma in Kinesiology from Lakehead University and Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
I am a trauma informed therapist and I believe there are many pathways to healing. I meet people where they are, use humor when appropriate and work with my clients to explore impacts of life events to help facilitate change and healing.
